Crowd Math - Privacy Policy

Crowd Math is built by Squeakbyte LLC. This policy explains how the app handles your data.

The short version: Crowd Math has no accounts and no sign-in. Anything you type into it, including a player's name, stays on your device and in your own iCloud, which we cannot see. The only thing we receive is anonymous counts of how the app is used.

What the app stores

Crowd Math stores your practice history: which facts you have been asked, whether each answer was right, how long it took, when it happened, and your streak. It also stores which of the app's achievements you have earned and how far along you are toward the rest, and your settings, such as the pace you play at and whether reminders are on.

Players. The app lets you set up more than one player on a device, so a family can share it, and you may give each one a name. That name is yours to choose and can be anything you like, including nothing at all. An unnamed player is shown as "Player 1", "Player 2" and so on. Whatever you type is stored on the device and in your own private iCloud alongside that player's practice history. It is never sent to Squeakbyte LLC and never leaves your iCloud.

Guests. Somebody can play without being one of your players. A guest's answers are held on the device, are not attached to anybody, are limited in number, and are cleared after thirty days unless you choose to keep them as a new player.

Beyond a name you choose to type, the app asks for nothing about you: no email address, no date of birth, no contacts. It has no account system and no way to sign in.

iCloud sync

Crowd Math syncs your practice history to your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service, so your progress follows you between your devices. This is on from the moment you first open the app.

That data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. Squeakbyte LLC cannot see it, and has no way to access it. We do not operate a server of our own for your practice history.

If you would rather Crowd Math did not sync, you can turn iCloud off for the app in iOS Settings under your Apple Account, or delete your data from the app's settings.

Anonymous usage data

Crowd Math sends anonymous, aggregate counts of things that happen in the app, such as how often each mode is played, which version you are running, and when the app asks you to rate it. Each one is a count of how many times something happened, and nothing else.

They never contain anything about which facts you were asked, what you answered, how fast you were, or how you did, and they carry no personal information and no account details. That is the promise this section makes. The examples above can grow as the app does; that line cannot move without this page being rewritten first.

To avoid counting the same person twice, the app uses a code that is re-derived for each reporting period, so counts from one period cannot be tied to counts from another. The code is generated on your device from a random value that never leaves it, and we have no way to identify you from it. This data is stored using Apple's CloudKit service.

You can turn usage data off at any time in the app's settings.

Two player modes

Crowd Math has two modes for two people sharing one phone, sitting at either end of it. They are entirely local: there is no network play, no matchmaking, no way to play against somebody who is not in the room, and nothing about a game is sent anywhere. Neither mode records any answer to anybody's practice history, and nothing you do in them affects what the app thinks you know.

Sharing a result

After a daily challenge you can share a picture of how it went. Tapping Share opens the standard iOS share sheet, and where the picture goes is entirely your choice: it is sent by the app you pick, to the people you pick. Squeakbyte LLC is not involved and receives nothing, and nothing is shared unless you tap Share and choose where to send it.

The card shows the day, the score, and a colored square for each answer. It carries no name, and no web address. That is deliberate: a shared result says what happened, not who it happened to.

What we do not collect

Squeakbyte LLC does not collect your name or any name you type into the app, your email address, contacts, location, photos, health data, or advertising identifiers. There is no advertising in the app, and nothing about you is sold or shared with anyone. The one exception is an email you choose to send us, which is covered under External Links.

Device backups

If you use iCloud Backup or back your device up to a computer, iOS may include the app's stored data in that backup, as it does for other apps. Those backups are controlled by Apple and by your own device settings, not by Squeakbyte LLC, and we have no access to them.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, the app asks your permission to send notifications and schedules them locally on your device. Nothing about a reminder leaves the device. You can turn reminders off in the app's settings or in iOS Settings at any time.

Purchases

Crowd Math offers a single one-time purchase that unlocks the paid features. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Squeakbyte LLC does not collect or have access to your payment information, billing details, or Apple Account information. The app asks Apple only whether the purchase has been made.

Third-party services

The app uses only Apple-provided services: iCloud for sync, the App Store for the purchase, and local notifications for reminders. There are no third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics services in the app.

External links

Several things in the app open something outside it, and none of them happens unless you tap it.

This policy and our Terms & Conditions open in your browser. The other apps by the same developer, and rating Crowd Math, open on the App Store. Emailing support opens your mail app with the app's version already in the subject line and nothing else filled in.

Following any of these tells Squeakbyte LLC nothing about you. If you do send the email, we see your message and the address it came from, and we use that to answer you and for nothing else.

Data deletion

You can delete all of your data, including every player, every name, and everything synced to iCloud, from within the app's settings at any time. You can also remove a single player without touching the rest.

Children's privacy

Crowd Math collects no personal information from anyone who uses it, whatever their age. It has no accounts and no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party services, no online play and no messaging.

Changes to this policy

This policy describes the app as it works today. If a future version handles data differently, this page is updated with it and the date at the top changes, so what it says and what the app does stay in step.
